ABOUT

RAY SMITHERMAN

BIOGRAPHY

Ray Smitherman is a songwriter with more than three decades devoted to the craft of country music. In 2009, he moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting professionally and soon after signed a publishing deal with Jim Vest and Vest Music Group, where he spent three years writing and developing his catalog. During his years in Nashville, Smitherman also created and hosted several successful songwriter rounds, including Alabama Line, a tradition he carried forward that became a stage for both working songwriters and notable artists. Over the years, artists including Jamey Johnson, Drake White, Jon Pardi, and many others took part in the rounds, making them part of the songwriting community Smitherman helped cultivate. Across more than 30 years of writing, Smitherman has written and co-written hundreds of songs, continually refining a style grounded in strong lyrics, memorable hooks, and the storytelling tradition of country music. Today, Smitherman resides in Florida and continues to write every day. His focus is straightforward: great songs and the right opportunities. He is actively seeking cuts with recording artists and remains open to the right publishing relationship when the fit makes sense. This catalog represents both decades of work and what he's writing now—with songs available for artists, producers and publishers looking for material.

SONGWRITING HISTORY

Ray Smitherman has been writing songs for more than 30 years, building a catalog of hundreds of original compositions and co-writes along the way. What began as a passion for songwriting eventually led him to Nashville in 2009, where writing became a full-time pursuit of the craft. His years in Nashville included a three-year publishing relationship with Jim Vest / Vest Music Group, countless writing sessions and co-writes, and years spent immersed in the songwriter community. Smitherman also became involved in Nashville's live songwriter scene, creating and hosting writer rounds that gave songs—and the people behind them—a place to be heard. Through the years, his writing has evolved with country music while remaining centered on the elements that first drew him to songwriting: an original idea, an honest lyric, a memorable melody, and a hook worth remembering. More than three decades later, he's still writing—and still chasing the next great song.
